Hairspray (2007)
Hairspray is a remake of the 1988 film with the same title. There is also a stage adaptation of this musical which has been on production on stage since 2002. It is about an overweight girl named Tracy Turnblad (Nikky Blonsky) who joined a teen dance TV program “The Corny Collins Show” in which she exclaims her support on integration. In this version, Tracy evaded the cops and made her way to the crowning night of Miss Hairspray, while in the two other versions, she was arrested and put to jail after a riot due to racial discrimination. Another ironic detail is that John Travolta played a drag role, dressing up and acting as a female, while his belief in Scientology is strongly against homosexuality.
